Dr. Thomas Hibbs’ lecture, “True Freedom in the Arts: Beauty and Devotion in Catholic Art,” looks to the thought and artistic images of two Catholic friends, Jacques Maritian, one of the great Thomists of the 20th century, and Georges Rouault, perhaps the finest religious artist of the century.
About the Speaker
Thomas Hibbs received a B.A. in English and an M.A. in philosophy from UD and both a master’s and a doctorate in medieval studies from the University of Notre Dame. He was a tutor at Thomas Aquinas College for three years before moving to Boston College, where he taught for 13 years as full professor and chair of the philosophy department.
