The re-emergence of Israel as a nation-state caught the world by surprise and continues to trouble it deeply. That Israel matters geo-politically cannot be doubted, but does it matter theologically? Is there a place for Israel, as there is for Jews, in Christian eschatology?

Douglas Farrow is Professor of Theology and Christian Thought, and sometime holder of the Kennedy Smith Chair in Catholic Studies, at McGill University in Montreal. He has lectured and published widely in North America and Europe on moral, doctrinal, and political subjects. Among his recent works are Ascension Theology, Desiring a Better Country, and the forthcoming Theological Negotiations. Professor Farrow is a member of the Academy of Catholic Theology and a frequent contributor to First Things. He received a Queen Elizabeth II Diamond Jubilee medal for his contributions to public discourse on significant social issues.
