6:00 pm EDT - 7:00 pm EDT
During this second installment of a three part series reflecting on the human person, Angela Knobel will explore the notion of virtue in terms of its relationship to the pursuit of truth. She will argue that to cultivate the virtues is to cultivate a certain kind of relationship between oneself and the world: a habitual ability to recognize and be guided by the truth. She will also address how this notion helps to illuminate what it would mean to possess each of the four cardinal virtues.
Angela Knobel is associate professor of philosophy at the Catholic University of America. Her main areas of research are Thomas Aquinas’s virtue theory, ethics, and bioethics, and her papers have appeared or are forthcoming in such journals as The Thomist, American Catholic Philosophical Quarterly, Nova et Vetera, International Philosophical Quarterly, Christian Bioethics, Studies in Christian Ethics, and The Journal of Moral Theology. She is working on a book, Aquinas and the Infused Moral Virtues. Professor Knobel has written numerous articles on the virtues, character, and the moral philosophy of Thomas Aquinas. She is also a project leader for the Beacon Project, an interdisciplinary research project on ethics, funded by the John Templeton Foundation.
Event followed by a reception.
