Lenten Mini Retreat: Reasons for Hope

The CIC invites you to our upcoming mini-retreat on Saturday, April 5th that will examine the theological virtue of hope. Our leaders for this mini-retreat will be Fr. Paul Kais (Assistant Chaplain, CIC) and Fr. Larry Swink (Parochial Vicar at Saint Bernadette Catholic Church in Silver Spring).

Attendance for the retreat is in-person only, it will not be livestreamed. Confessions will be offered throughout the morning.

April 5th Schedule (Subject to Change):

  • 9:30 am: Mass celebrated by Fr. Paul Kais
  • 10:00 am: Light breakfast pastries, coffee, and fellowship
  • 10:20 am: Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament; Confessions begin
  • 10:30 am: Meditation 1 by Fr. Larry Swink — Defining Hope and Examining the Sins Against Hope
  • 11:00 am: Silent Prayer before the Blessed Sacrament (spiritual reading materials will be offered)
  • 11:50 am: Meditation 2 by Fr. Larry Swink — Ways to Grow in Hope and the Reason We Need Hope
  • 12:20 pm: Benediction
  • 12:30 pm: Mini-Retreat concludes

This retreat is free to the public, but please R.S.V.P. if you plan to attend.


The closest Metro stops near the CIC are McPherson Square (Orange, Blue, and Silver lines) and Farragut North (Red line). The CIC building’s garage is closed on Saturday mornings, but street parking is available.

About the Speakers

Born on Midway Island (a U.S. territory), Fr. Larry Swink is the oldest of 10 children. He is graduate of the Heights School in Potomac, MD, and of the University of Dallas, earning a degree in political philosophy. Before joining the Immaculate Conception Seminary in 2001, he worked for Morgan Stanley as a financial advisor for 2.5 years. He was ordained in 2006, and had been previously been pastor at Jesus the Divine Word Catholic Church in Huntingtown, MD, and Sacred Heart in La Plata, MD. In his spare time, Fr. Larry enjoys the outdoors. He is a cyclist, plays basketball, and enjoys hiking and snowboarding…as well as anything that includes a ball or a stick!
