SUMMARY:Seeking the Spirit Within
DESCRIPTION:Discover the power of breathing to draw closer to God. \nYou are invited to join author Shereen Yusuff for the launch of her new book\, Seeking the Spirit Within: Experiencing Union with God Through Breath\, on Tuesday\, February 3\, 2026 at 6:00 PM EST. After the talk\, stay for a booksigning with Shereen and a light happy hour. Seeking the Spirit Within will be available for purchase at the CIC bookstore. \nRSVP to attend the presentation either in-person or virtually through the livestream. \nFebruary 3rd Schedule: \n\n5:45 PM: Doors open for registrant check-in\n6:00 PM: “Seeking the Spirit Within” presentation – this portion of the program will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream\n7:00 PM: Booksigning and light happy hour\n8:00 PM: Evening concludes\n\n\nAbout the Book: \nAuthor Shereen Yusuff\, a certified breath and movement coach\, has created a step-by-step guide that offers healing for your body and soul—and it all begins with your next breath. \n“Shereen’s journey is amazing\, led by the wind\, the carrier of God’s holiness. Keep on\, Shereen\, serene and clear\, strong and humble.” \n—Wim Hof\, the Iceman \nEach breath is an invitation and an opportunity to rediscover we are meant for more than mere survival: we are meant to be alive. When God filled us with His own breath\, He chose our lungs to hold us together as body and soul\, creatures who are miraculously the very dwelling place of the Holy Spirit. And yet we often live divided\, disconnected from ourselves\, our bodies\, and Godʼs presence within us. But there is another way. \nIn Seeking the Spirit Within\, Shereen Yusuff\, a certified breath and movement coach and Benedictine oblate\, offers exercises that teach readers anew to pay attention\, breathe\, and pray. She demonstrates that itʼs impossible to care for the body without caring for the soul and that the deepest source of our healing is Christ in us. \nEach chapter of the book carefully guides readers in a practice of spiritual reflections inspired by Scripture\, breathing and attention exercises\, and reflection questions. With Yusuff’s guidance\, readers will: \n\nunderstand the scientific and spiritual reasons why intentional breathing is both physically and spiritually healing\npractice self-examination\ngrow comfortable with discomfort\nlearn to rest more deeply\nconnect with Godʼs infinite love\n\nSeeking the Spirit Within is for any reader yearning for intimacy with God and a seamless integration of physical and spiritual wellness.

SUMMARY:What Binds Marriage Forever
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join us on February 13 at 3:00 PM EST as Dr. Jonathan Bieler outlines Austrian author Ida Friederike Görres’s What Binds Marriage Forever\, which has a new English translation by Jennifer S. Bryson being released. He is an assistant professor of patrology and systematic theology at Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage & Family at The Catholic University of America. \nRSVP to join us in-person or virtually through the livestream. \nGörres’s What Binds Marriage Forever is a startlingly relevant and engaging defense of the indissolubility of marriage. Görres reflects on the nature of marriage in relation to human anthropology. She presents her case with a sensitive and realistic view of the sometimes lovely\, sometimes challenging relations in marriage between a man and a woman. \nAgainst those who claim that indissolubility is “unnatural\,” Görres demonstrates how the Church’s teaching balances eros and kinship\, the two main poles of intimacy found in human cultures. Görres explains how the Catholic sacrament of marriage elevates the significance of the marriage bond\, even in cases of unwilled infertility. \nIndissolubility\, argues Görres\, uniquely supports the emergence of wholesome love within marriage. For those who may be struggling\, she offers precious insights. Along the way\, Görres reveals how efforts to undermine the Church’s teaching on marriage are linked to broader attempts to unmoor Catholic theology at its roots. \nGörres’s valuable contribution to modern debates about marriage was first published in 1971\, when the sexual revolution was transitioning from a threat at the walls of the Church to a mindset some were attempting to smuggle inside. Today\, as marriage faces ever more challenges and debates within the Church continue\, What Binds Marriage Forever\, forgotten for over fifty years\, is now available in English translation for the first time. \nIda Friederike Görres (1901–1971) was a prominent Catholic writer in German-speaking Europe. In his eulogy for her\, Fr. Joseph Ratzinger praised how Görres “spoke with an insightful certainty and a fearlessness about the pressing questions and tasks of the Church today.” In 2025\, Bishop Erik Varden called her\, “A crucial voice for the present moment.” \nIn his introduction\, Jonathan Bieler highlights the book’s central themes and he will do the same during this program. For this English edition\, the translator has added a study guide with questions for personal reflection\, classroom use\, and book clubs. \nView the book’s trailer. \nRead this interview with translator Jennifer Bryson by the Catholic University of America Press. \nFebruary 13th Schedule: \n\n3:00 PM: Presentation begins – this portion of the afternoon will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream\n4:00 PM: Coffee social and a chance to buy the book\n4:30 PM: Afternoon concludes\n\n
