SUMMARY:The Dignity of Dependence
DESCRIPTION:The CIC is pleased to welcome author Leah Libresco Sargeant for the launch of her latest book\, The Dignity of Dependence: A Feminist Manifesto (Catholic Ideas for a Secular World) on Tuesday\, October 7\, 2025 at 6:00 PM. \nThe Dignity of Dependence argues that women’s equal rights depend on advocating for women as women. \nThe world is not ready to welcome women as women; a culture that fears dependence and asks everyone to aim for autonomy and independence will always be a society hostile to women. Women are expected to care for those around them while living in a society that despises need and penalizes those who care for the weak. \nThe Dignity of Dependence aims to liberate women and men from this corrosive and false ideal of the human person as strongest alone. Leah Libresco Sargeant argues that to thrive\, human beings need to exist in webs of mutual dependence\, not in isolating\, radical autonomy. Women’s equal dignity doesn’t require women to deny biological reality or attempt to be interchangeable with men. Sargeant advocates for building a culture that accepts and celebrates women as they are rather than demanding that women keep their relationships and their bodies in check. The fight for women’s dignity is a fight for a full\, human dignity―a dignity that isn’t threatened by dependence. It is our need for each other that makes us human. \nMrs. Sargeant’s talk will be offered both in-person and virtually through a livestream \nOctober 7th Schedule: \n\n5:40 pm EDT: Doors open for registrant check-in\n6:00 pm EDT: Leah Libresco Sargeant’s presentation (this portion will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Booksigning by the author and a light happy hour\n8:00 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\nThe Dignity of Dependence will be available to purchase at the CIC bookstore. \nRSVP today!

SUMMARY:The Company We Keep
DESCRIPTION:“No one has greater love than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” –John 15:13 \nWhat does it mean to live friendship as a Christian? In a culture of fleeting connections and digital noise\, The Company We Keep offers a compelling return to the wisdom of Aristotle\, St. Thomas Aquinas\, the Gospel\, and Christian tradition to rediscover the lost art and meaning of true friendship as a vital part of holiness and discipleship. \nJoin Catholic philosopher and author Michael Pakaluk at the CIC for the launch of his latest book on Friday\, October 10th at 2:00 PM EDT. \nIn The Company We Keep: True Friendship and Why it Matters\, Dr. Pakaluk invites the reader to see friendship not as optional\, but essential: a moral\, spiritual\, and deeply human bond that reflects our highest calling. With clarity and warmth\, he explores the kinds of friendship that shape our lives—from casual camaraderie to the deep\, sacrificial love between spouses\, parents\, and children. \nWhether you seek richer relationships\, deeper community\, or a more meaningful life of faith\, this book will challenge and inspire you to choose your company wisely—and to become the kind of friend that is crucial and indispensable in the lives of your loved ones. It is a book about community\, growing in love\, and following Christ more closely—together. \nOctober 10th Schedule: \n\n1:40 pm EDT: Registration check-in begins\n2:00 pm EDT: Michael Pakaluk’s presentation (this portion will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream)\n3:00 pm EDT: Booksigning by Dr. Pakaluk along with a coffee and tea time social\n4:00 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\nThe Company We Keep will be available to purchase at the CIC bookstore. SUMMARY:Visions of the Divine
DESCRIPTION:The CIC is pleased to welcome back Catholic evangelist\, businessman\, and author Stephen Auth for a discussion of his latest book\, Visions of the Divine: An Artistic Journey Into the Mystery of the Eucharist. This program will be offered both in-person and virtually through a livestream. \n10/22 Schedule: \n\n5:40 pm EDT: Registration check-in begins\n6:00 pm EDT: “Visions of the Divine” presentation by Steve Auth (this portion will be offered both in-person and through a livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Booksigning and a light happy hour\n8:00 pm EDT: The evening concludes\n\nVisions of the Divine is available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nABOUT THE BOOK: \nIn Visions of the Divine\, Steve Auth reunites the art of the Eucharist with the Eucharistic liturgy itself. Much of this art was separated from the context of the Mass for which it was created many centuries ago and is relegated now to museums sprinkled around the world. Along with his co-authors Evelyn Auth and Msgr. Roger Landry\, Steve leads the reader on a worldwide pilgrimage to some of the most spectacular and moving artistic masterpieces created over the millennia to help clergy and laity alike penetrate more deeply into the Eucharistic mystery. Journeying to museums and churches in nearly 20 cities across the United States and Europe\, the authors will guide you through the liturgy of the Mass in ways you may never have experienced. \nWhether you attend church out of obligation\, for the sense of community you find there\, or for the Eucharistic presence itself\, Visions of the Divine will help you make these experiences richer\, more vibrant\, and more fulfilling. And if you’ve never attended a Roman Catholic Mass and are curious about what happens there\, Visions will give you an experience guaranteed to leave you thirsting for more. \nNarrated in the author’s simple\, emotive style\, Visions of the Divine presents you with dozens of colorful images of thought-provoking art that will immerse you in each element of the Mass at a deeper and more profound level\, including: \n\nHow the simple act of making the Sign of the Cross\, which the average Catholic does eight times during the liturgy\, can make you cry\nQuieting your mind to listen more actively to the Word of God and to imagine yourself in the moment as the Word is proclaimed and the author guides you through some of the Scriptures’ most iconic messages\nImagining the Apostles’ Creed as it was carved and painted into one of Europe’s most colorful Catholic churches\nMeditating on a lasting image of eternity while the collection basket is passed — a practice that will forever change how you think about this relatively prosaic element of the liturgy\nReliving the sacrifice and triumph of Christ on Calvary during the Eucharistic prayers through some of the greatest artistic masterpieces ever created\nFollowing the path of biblical figures\, such as Mary Magdalene\, the prodigal son\, and St. Paul himself\, to freely receive Christ’s healing mercy\, forgiveness\, peace\, and love at Mass\nExperiencing the sacrament of Holy Communion for what it truly is — communion with God Himself\nHow to re-enter the world following the Mass with visual images in your head that will make you a more effective evangelist\n\nFrom Rembrandt\, El Greco\, and Van Gogh to Michelangelo\, da Vinci\, and Raphael; from Velaquez\, Picasso\, and Dali to lesser-known greats\, such as Pontormo\, Masaccio and Drolling\, the array of breathtaking art in Steve Auth’s Visions of the Divine will enlighten your path to communion with God. You will witness our Father’s love for you and be encouraged to let yourself be loved by Him within the Eucharistic mystery.

SUMMARY:Monsignor Charles Pope on "The Hell There Is" (In-Person Only)
DESCRIPTION:Join Monsignor Charles Pope at the CIC on Friday morning\, October 24\, 2025 for a lecture that will defend the doctrine of hell against doubters and skeptics. \nAs we move closer to Halloween\, ghoulishly hellish imagery abounds from Hollywood’s latests\, your social platforms\, and in neighborhood front yards. Despite this emphasis on hell in today’s world\, there are many self-described Christians who question whether God would consign any soul to hell. Monsignor Pope will address this falsehood and the people who adopt this belief as ignoring Jesus’s teachings that instruct the exact opposite. He will also argue why hell plays a central role in God’s plan of salvation. \nThe morning-time talk is for those with alternative work schedules from the “normal” 9-to-5. The session will include a coffee social\, and will be held in-person only. \nMonsignor’s latest book\, The Hell There Is: An Exploration of an Often-Rejected Doctrine of the Church\, was released earlier this year and is available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nOctober 24th Morning Schedule: \n\n9:30 am: Doors open for registrant check-in. Help yourself to a cup of coffee\, and find a seat.\n10:00 am: Presentation by Monsignor Charles Pope\n11:00 am: Lecture end. Feel free to purchase the book\, and get it signed by Monsignor.\n\nRSVP today! \nLastly\, we invite all attendees to stay for the CIC’s daily Mass at noon. Confessions will be offered before and after Mass.

SUMMARY:Mary\, a Presentation by Fray Stefano Cecchin\, OFM
DESCRIPTION:The CIC is honored to welcome the president of the Pontifical International Marian Academy (PAMI) and a leading voice in contemporary Mariological theology\, Fray Stefano Cecchin\, OFM\, for an insightful presentation on Our Blessed Mother on Thursday\, October 30. Mass will be offered to begin the evening at 6:15 PM EDT with Fray Stefano’s talk following at 7:00 PM EDT. \nFray Stefano will be accompanied by Brother Marco Mendoza Martínez\, Secretary of the Pontifical International Marian Academy (PAMI). Their visit offers a rare opportunity to engage with two distinguished Vatican-affiliated scholars whose work bridges deep theological insight with urgent global concerns. \nFray Stefano Cecchin is a Franciscan theologian\, professor\, and author\, internationally recognized for his contributions to Marian studies. Appointed by Pope Francis in 2017 as President of PAMI\, he has redefined the Academy’s mission to address the spiritual and social relevance of Mary in today’s world. Under his leadership\, PAMI has launched groundbreaking initiatives such as the Department for Legality\, which seeks to reclaim Marian devotion from misuse and promote Mary as a symbol of justice\, peace\, and maternal care. \nWith a doctorate in theology from the Pontifical Faculty “Marianum”\, Fray Stefano’s academic journey is deeply rooted in the Franciscan tradition\, which he views as inherently Marian. His scholarship explores themes such as the Immaculate Conception\, Marian apparitions\, and Mary’s role in Franciscan spirituality\, always emphasizing her power to unite across cultures and faiths. \nFray Stefano’s recent leadership in the 26th International Mariological Marian Congress—a global gathering of scholars and practitioners—demonstrates his commitment to fostering dialogue that speaks to the most pressing human and spiritual challenges of our time. Drawing on papal teachings like Fratelli Tutti and Laudato Si’\, he presents Mary not only as a theological figure\, but as a universal model of encounter\, healing\, and hope. \nWhether through his academic work\, pastoral outreach\, or international coordination\, Fray Stefano inspires a vision of Mary that is deeply relevant to today’s fractured world. We invite you to join us in welcoming him and Brother Marco\, and to take part in this event. \nOctober 30th Schedule: \n\n6:00 PM: Doors open; Registration check-in begins\n6:15 PM: Mass celebrated by CIC Associate Chaplain Fr. Jaime Hernandez\n7:00 PM: Fray Stefano’s presentation on Our Lady (this portion will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream)\n8:00 PM: Enjoy a light Happy (Half) Hour\n8:30 PM: Conclusion\n\nRSVP today!
