SUMMARY:The Martyrs of the New Millennium
DESCRIPTION:The CIC is pleased to invite you to the launch of Robert Royal’s new book\, The Martyrs of the New Millennium\, on Wednesday\, April 16\, 2025 at 6:00 PM EDT. The program will be offered both in-person and virtually through a YouTube livestream. \nThis book is the thundering voice of the martyrs of our time. Though mostly overlooked\, the harrowing stories of hundreds of thousands of fellow Christians from around the world who gave their lives for the Faith in recent years — including in full-scale genocides of Christians in several countries — are a part of our history crying out to be told. Here is that history. \nDr. Royal chronicles the heartrending stories of heroic priests\, religious\, and laypeople who are being brutally persecuted\, tortured\, and martyred today by various groups\, including Islamists\, criminal gangs\, political extremists\, and satanic cults. He reveals how thousands more are right now living courageously under oppressive regimes facing similar threats and dangers daily. \nThese are our brothers and sisters in the Faith\, the saints in our midst! You will learn about them\, the role spiritual combat plays in their persecution\, and how you can help alleviate their suffering. While doing so you will also discover: \n\nHow the early Christian martyrs provided one of the first “books of spirituality”\nThe true definition of a Christian martyr and five criteria to be considered a martyr\nTeachings of recent popes on the new martyrdom\, including oblatio vitae\nHow “blasphemy laws” are misconstrued to accuse and condemn Christians unjustly\nThe most dangerous place to be a Catholic priest (You will be shocked!)\nThe country where nine out of ten Christians martyrs worldwide are killed\nThe tremendous sufferings of “white martyrs” and red martyrs\n\nIn these gripping pages\, you will also see how even Christians who aren’t martyrs by definition continue to be powerful witnesses amid the most dire circumstances\, proclaiming the true Faith and radiating God’s light in the face of the most diabolical cruelty. \nThis watershed work gives Tertullian’s famous words “the blood of martyrs is the seed of the Church” an entirely new meaning. \nApril 16th Schedule:\n\n5:40 PM: Registrant check-in begins.\n6:00-7:00 PM: “The Martyrs of the New Millennium” presentation (this portion will be live-streamed)\n7:00-8:00 PM: Book signing and light happy hour\n7:45 PM: Conclusion\n\nDr. Royal’s book will be available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nRSVP today to join us in-person or through the livestream for this event!

SUMMARY:Cleanup on Aisle Mine
DESCRIPTION:The CIC\, Napa Institute\, and Catholic Leadership Institute invite you to register for our April 3rd event with author Dan Cellucci. He will be joining us to discuss his new book\, Cleanup on Aisle Mine: Learning about Life\, Leadership\, and the Lord in the Day-to-Day. \nSo\, what do a 5-year-old kleptomaniac\, an infuriating exchange with a rental car agent\, and regular trips to Rome have in common? They are among the hilarious and heartwarming life lessons in this daily reflection book. \nIn Cleanup on Aisle Mine\, Dan curates nearly eight years of his experience as a millennial husband\, father\, and CEO of a national Catholic nonprofit as he weaves together wisdom from modern-day popes and his own faith journey in this collection of accessible tales. \nHis self-deprecating humor and radical vulnerability allow the reader to hold up a mirror as they read each day’s brief vignette and walk away with a much deeper insight on life\, leadership\, and the undeniable presence of God in the simplest of moments. This book will quickly become a favorite part of your daily routine as Dan offers his own examination of conscience as an invitation for you to consider what more God might be calling you to tomorrow. \nCleanup on Aisle Mine will be available for purchase at the CIC bookstore. \nOur Schedule on April 3rd: \n\n5:00 pm EDT: Doors open for registrant check-in\n5:15 pm EDT: Mass in the CIC chapel\n6:00 pm EDT: “Cleanup on Aisle Mine” presentation by Dan Cellucci (this portion will be offered virtually via a livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Booksigning by Dan and a light happy hour\n8:00 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\nThank you to our event co-sponsors\, the Napa Institute and Catholic Leadership Institute. \nRSVP today!

SUMMARY:A Bell for Nagasaki
DESCRIPTION:Professor James L. Nolan\, Jr.\, Washington Gladden 1859 Professor of Sociology at Williams College and author of Atomic Doctors\, will discuss the unique manner in which the Catholics of Nagasaki responded to the plutonium bomb that was dropped on their city on 9 August 1945. \nThe Fat Man bomb demolished Nagasaki’s Urakami Cathedral (the largest Catholic Church in East Asia at the time). In spite of seemingly insurmountable odds\, the cathedral was rebuilt by the community in the years after the war. Included in the new building is one of the original bells recovered from beneath the rubble of the ruins. The other bell was destroyed and to this day the left tower of the rebuilt cathedral remains empty. \nAt the invitation of a parishioner at the cathedral and with the blessing of the Archbishop of Nagasaki\, Nolan is leading the Nagasaki Bell Project\, an effort to replace the second bell and install it before the 80th anniversary of the bombing (August 9\, 2025). This gift from American Catholics to their fellow Japanese Catholics is a beautiful project and a transcendent way to find healing from such a cataclysmic event. \nFriday\, 3/28/2025 Schedule: \n\n5:00 pm EDT: Doors open for registrant check-in\n5:30 pm EDT: “A Bell for Nagasaki” presentation by Prof. Nolan (this portion will be offered both in-person and virtually via a livestream) with Q&A\n6:30 pm EDT: Atomic Doctors book signing & light happy (half) hour with Prof. Nolan\n7:15 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\n“A Bell for Nagasaki” is offered for both in-person and virtual attendance. Copies of Atomic Doctors are available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nThank you to our event co-sponsor\, the Institute for Human Ecology (IHE) at The Catholic University of America. \nRSVP today!

SUMMARY:The Philos Project & CIC's "Catholics and Antisemitism—Facing the Past\, Shaping the Future"
DESCRIPTION:Join the CIC and the Philos Project’s Philos Catholic for an important one-day conference\, “Catholics and Antisemitism—Facing the Past\, Shaping the Future\,” at the Catholic Information Center on March 10\, 2025 from 1:15-6:00 PM EDT. This program will be offered both in-person and virtually through a YouTube livestream.\n\nWe will explore the challenges and responsibilities of Catholics in addressing antisemitism in today’s world. This event invites Catholics to reflect not only on the Church’s history and culture but also on the wider social currents that shape attitudes toward the Jewish people and Israel today.   \nHow should Catholics respond to rising antisemitic ideologies? What role do theology and Church teachings—like supersessionism and replacement theology—play in forming Catholic attitudes toward the Jewish people? In a world where Catholics often hear little from the pulpit about issues like Zionism or the occupation of the West Bank but are saturated with media narratives\, how can Catholic leaders offer a faithful\, thoughtful response?   \nThis timely program will also explore how shifting demographics—such as a younger and increasingly traditional Catholic population—might influence trends in Catholic-Jewish relations and how these trends could be leveraged to combat antisemitism.   \nDon’t miss this opportunity to engage with leading voices on a critical issue and to be equipped to infuse the public square with Christ’s beauty\, truth\, and goodness. Our presenters for the day are Dr. Richard Crane\, Mary Eberstadt\, Dr. Russ Hittinger\, Trent Horn\, Kathryn Lopez\, Maggie Phillips\, Jonathan Silver\, and George Weigel offering the keynote address. We will be joined for the day by the Philos Project team: Phil Dolitsky\, James O’Reilly\, and Simone Rizkallah. \nWe invite you to join us for the CIC’s noon Mass\, take a lunch break\, and be back by 1:15 PM EDT for the start of the conference. Coffee and light snacks will be offered to attendees during the conference. \n\nCONFERENCE SCHEDULE:\n1:15 PM-1:30 PM:\nWelcome and Opening Remarks by The Philos Project’s Simone Rizkallah; Benediction offered by the CIC’s Fr. SUMMARY:Sister\, Soldier\, Surgeon
DESCRIPTION:The CIC and the Napa Institute invite you to register for our next collaboration on Wednesday\, January 22nd\, the book launch of Sister\, Soldier\, Surgeon: The Life and Courage of Sister Deirdre Byrne\, M.D. by Leisa Marie Carzon\, PhD. \nDr. Carzon’s tells the tale of a modern-day Joan of Arc. In need of a filling of the Holy Spirit’s peace that passes understanding or even just last minute gifts? Melissa Carey\, creator of The Christmas Cabinet\, will share the joy found in the story of the nativity and offer ways to share that special message with friends and family. \n12/23/24 Schedule: \n\n10:00 am: Doors open for check-in and coffee break\n10:30 am: Presentation of the Christmas Cabinet\n11:30 am: Event concludes\n\n \nAbout The Christmas Cabinet:\nThe Christmas Cabinet is an Advent Calendar that creates a nativity scene. Starting December 1\, open each day’s numbered drawer. Read the story on the bottom of the drawer or use the booklet kept in the slot in the back of the cabinet.. You may want to open the drawers with your family each night after dinner and discuss the questions in the book. You may even decide to look up the Bible verses included in each reading to learn more about the stories. \nUse the figures from the drawers to complete your own nativity scene. When arranging the figures\, consider placing the angels on top of the cabinet or hanging the star and heavenly host from a drawer knob. Be sure to put Bethlehem under the star! The underside of each figure is numbered so that you can return the figures to the proper drawer for use next Christmas. \nLearn more about it here.

He was also very tall. From riding in small cars to crossing busy streets and even getting his uniform properly fitted\, life in Rome was a big adjustment for Andreas. He felt lonely\, out of place\, and just too tall. \nOn Christmas Eve\, Andreas was sad. This was his first Christmas away from his home in Switzerland\, and he missed his family. But that all changed after a surprise meeting with Pope John Paul II\, whose kindness filled Andreas with joy! \nBased on a true story\, The Too-Tall Swiss Guard is a timeless tale with awe-inspiring illustrations of the Swiss Guard\, St. Peter’s Basilica\, and the Eternal City that teaches children about courage\, generosity\, and trusting in God. As readers journey with Andreas\, they see how God created each person and all our unique traits for a purpose. \n  \n

SUMMARY:Transplanting the Womb
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to our upcoming talk with Andrew S. Kubick\, PhD on his newly released book\, Transplanting the Womb: A Catholic Bioethical Analysis. \nEmergent technologies\, especially in the realm of medicine\, require new ethical examinations to determine their moral implications. Too often\, the march of technological progress well outpaces these examinations\, leaving doctors\, researchers\, and the general public without proper guidance regarding the morality of novel procedures. When this occurs\, it is the duty of bioethicists to evaluate these emergent technologies and procedures to determine what is morally permissible. \nTransplanting the Womb: A Catholic Bioethical Analysis\, by Andrew S. Kubick\, gives an extensive account of the ethical ramifications of uterus transplantation (UTx). Adapted from Kubick’s doctoral dissertation\, it examines the previous decade of advancements in this emerging field of medicine\, evaluating both the progress made and the ethical concerns surrounding the process. The analysis is necessary\, as no previous publications have provided an exploration of such depth. This book weighs both secular and Catholic ethical traditions\, providing a detailed account of the development of the process\, the literature published on the matter\, and the process’s place in the context of sound Christian anthropology. \nAcademically rigorous and faithful to the Catholic intellectual tradition\, Transplanting the Womb will leave readers with both a greater understanding of uterus transplantation and a deeper appreciation of Catholic moral philosophy. \nThe event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \nProgram Schedule:\n\n5:40 PM: Doors open to the public\n6:00-7:00 PM: Presentation (this portion will be live-streamed)\n7:00-8:00 PM: Book signing and light happy hour\n8:00 PM: Conclusion\n\nThank you to the Religious Freedom Institute for co-sponsoring this event. \n

SUMMARY:'Catholicism and the Arts' with James Matthew Wilson and Robert Royal
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to welcome poet and scholar James Matthew Wilson for an evening of readings of his latest book of poems\, Saint Thomas and the Forbidden Birds. In between poems\, he will be interviewed by Robert Royal\, editor-in-chief of The Catholic Thing\, on his thoughts on Catholicism and the arts and how together they impact culture. This program will be offered both in-person and virtually through a livestream on Wednesday\, November 6. \nSaint Thomas and the Forbidden Birds is James Matthew Wilson’s fourth full-length collection of poems\, and he joins the great saint and theologian Thomas Aquinas to pause before “the thought of earthly sorrows” and to pray for “such a world that had so much to say.” \nThese poems stand in wonder before the tumult and beauty of created things and the capacity of the soul to rise above it. We move from encounters with the world as revelation\, mystery\, and promise\, to great scenes of sin and fracture such as the bombing of Dresden\, the execution of the Roman philosopher Cicero\, and scandals in the Church. The volume begins with the prospects for an unborn child soon to enter our stormy world and concludes with a “Farewell” to the place\, home\, and setting of many of these poems. \nThis book is a story and pilgrimage through the troubles of our age and beyond them to the reason for our hope\, “for all things turn about the love of God.” \nEvent Schedule: \n5:40 PM EST: Doors open\n6:00 PM: Poetry reading by James Matthew Wilson and interview with Bob Royal (this portion will be livestreamed through YouTube)\n7:00 PM: Book signing and light happy hour \nSaint Thomas and the Forbidden Birds is published by Word on Fire Academic and is available for purchase at the CIC bookstore and Word on Fire’s online bookstore.

SUMMARY:Superhabits
DESCRIPTION:The CIC is pleased to invite you to join author Andrew V. Abela\, PhD on Thursday\, October 24th for the launch of his book\, Superhabits: The Universal System for a Successful Life. \nWhatever issue you are struggling with right now\, whatever challenge you may be facing\, there is a super habit to help you overcome it. Andrew Abela has crafted a foundational book describing how we can attain virtue — or as he calls the virtues the “superhabits” — which require not herculean efforts but\, rather\, steady daily practice\, which is accessible to all. He explains how the genius of a 13-century philosopher-monk (St. Thomas Aquinas) codified the superhabits into a veritable human operating system\, one that’s more relevant today than ever. \nDr. Abela will highlight: \n\nHow super habits make life easier — because once something becomes a habit\, it takes less effort.\nWhy super habits lead to lasting joy rather than just temporary gratification.\nThe effects of super habits on physical\, mental\, and emotional health.\nIn a culture that prioritizes short-term fixes over long-term solutions\, Dr. Abela’s Superhabits offers a foundational\, back-to-basics plan that produces both immediate and enduring results.\n\nSuperhabits will be available for purchase at the CIC bookstore with a book signing by the author and is also available through Sophia Institute Press. \n \nOctober 24th Book Launch Schedule: \n\n5:40 pm: Doors open for registrant check-in\n6:00 pm: Presentation of Superhabits (This portion will be livestreamed through YouTube.)\n7:00 pm: Book signing by Dr. Abela and a light happy hour\n8:00 pm: Event concludes\n\nThe presentation will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Join us\, and RSVP today! \nView the book’s trailer today…

SUMMARY:American Covenant
DESCRIPTION:On October 22nd at 6:00 PM EDT\, join the CIC and The Center for the Constitution and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) for our upcoming panel discussion based upon Yuval Levin’s new book\, American Covenant: How the Constitution Unified Our Nation―and Could Again. We are pleased to welcome our speakers: \n\nYuval Levin – Director of Social\, Cultural\, and Constitutional Studies\, AEI\nJack Landman Goldsmith – Learned Hand Professor of Law\, Harvard Law\nWilliam Kelley – Associate Professor of Law\, Notre Dame Law\nJ. Joel Alicea – Director of CIT and Associate Professor of Law\, The Catholic University of America Columbus School of Law\n\nDr. Levin’s book will be available for purchase at the CIC and is available for online purchase as well. \nThe event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today! \nAbout Dr. Levin’s book:\n \nCommon ground is hard to find in today’s politics. In a society teeming with irreconcilable political perspectives\, many people have grown frustrated under a system of government that constantly demands compromise. More and more on both the right and the left have come to blame the Constitution for the resulting discord. But the Constitution is not the problem we face; it is the solution. \nBlending engaging history with lucid analysis\, conservative scholar Yuval Levin’s American Covenant recovers the Constitution’s true genius and reveals how it charts a path to repairing America’s fault lines. Uncovering the framers’ sophisticated grasp of political division\, Levin showcases the Constitution’s exceptional power to facilitate constructive disagreement\, negotiate resolutions to disputes\, and forge unity in a fractured society. Clear-eyed about the ways that contemporary politics have malfunctioned\, Levin also offers practical solutions for reforming those aspects of the constitutional order that have gone awry. \nHopeful\, insightful\, and rooted in the best of our political tradition\, American Covenant celebrates the Constitution’s remarkable power to bind together a diverse society\, reassuring us that a less divided future is within our grasp. \n\nOctober 22nd Schedule: \n\n6:00 pm: Panel discussion (This portion will be livestreamed through YouTube.)\n7:00 pm: Light happy (half) hour\n7:30 pm: Conclusion\n\n\nThis program is co-sponsored by The Center for the Constitution and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) promotes scholarship that explores the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition for American constitutionalism. That tradition is deep and rich\, including philosophical and theological accounts of law and politics by such figures as St. Augustine and St. Thomas Aquinas. Although CIT’s primary focus is on theories of constitutional law\, such as originalism\, its ambit is broad and covers the relevance of the Catholic intellectual tradition for constitutional history\, doctrine\, and other fields of study. CIT carries out its mission through such activities as guest lectures\, conferences\, courses offered through the Law School\, a program on the Catholic intellectual tradition for young lawyers in the D.C. area (see the “Aquinas Fellowship” page)\, and a program of special events and offerings for students at The Catholic University of America (see the “Ex Corde Fellowship” page).

Brent’s talk will offer you a glimpse of his book\, which addresses the questions of life’s purpose\, personal identity\, and the human being’s search for love\, and shows how friendship with Jesus Christ answers these questions. The Father’s House is on sale at the CIC bookstore. \nThe event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \nOctober 10th Schedule: \n\n6:30-7:30 PM: Talk by Fr. James Brent\, O.P. (this portion will be live-streamed)\n7:30-8:30 PM: Book signing and light happy hour\n8:30pm: Conclusion\n\nAbout the Book:\nWhat is the purpose of life? Who am I? How do I find love?\nFather James Dominic Brent\, OP\, shows how friendship with Jesus Christ answers these burning questions. This approachable guide to the spiritual life explains how to live a transformative friendship with Christ that leads us to the fullness of life “in the Father’s house.” \nWith an artful blend of catechesis and narrative\, Father Brent frames the gospel as the answer to the most pressing human questions about identity and purpose. He guides readers through a contemplative gaze at the Trinity\, the story of the Fall and its consequences\, the anthropology of the human heart\, and our final destiny in God. He shines a light on the conflicting thoughts\, movements\, and desires that afflict us and charts a sure path to discerning truth from error to discover our true selves. Born from many years of preaching\, teaching\, and college ministry\, The Father’s House: Discovering Our Home in the Trinity is stimulating and timely reading for catechists\, young adult ministers\, chaplains\, and Catholics searching for a deeper\, fuller life of friendship with God in the Trinity. \n

SUMMARY:Beauty 101
DESCRIPTION:The human person is a truth seeker\, and one of the most compelling ways human beings pursue truth is through the arts. \nThe CIC and Catholic Art Institute invite you to join philosopher and author Daniel McInerny\, PhD for a discussion about beauty. What is beauty? And why is it important? \nDr. McInerny is the author of the newly released Beauty and Imitation: A Philosophical Reflection on the Arts\, published by Word on Fire Academic. During his presentation\, Dr. McInerny will introduce the theories from his book of art as imitation and help us develop our own understanding of beauty that is connected to the mimetic (imitative) arts. \nBeauty and Imitation will be available for purchase at the CIC bookstore in addition to his past books including the novel\, The Good Death of Kate Montclair. \nThe program will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \n9/4 Schedule: \n\n5:40 pm: Doors open for check-in\n6:00 pm: Beauty 101 presentation and Q&A (This portion will be livestreamed through YouTube.)\n7:00 pm: Book signing and reception\n8:00 pm: Conclusion\n\n\nAbout Dr. McInerny’s Book: \n \nIn Beauty and Imitation: A Philosophical Reflection on the Arts\, Daniel McInerny argues for an understanding of art as a form of inquiry into truth that proceeds by way of sensible beauty. \nDrawing upon the thought of Aristotle and St. Thomas Aquinas\, McInerny argues for the unfashionable yet philosophically compelling view that art is essentially “mimetic\,” imitative of human action. But what does it mean for art to imitate human action? It means that art imitates the way human beings by nature quest for fulfillment\, or happiness. In questing for fulfillment\, human life takes the form of a story\, and so the arts—all the arts\, from painting to music\, from fiction to film—are storytelling arts whose beauty reveals the truth about human happiness. \nThe first part of the book features a renewed defense of the ancient Aristotelian claim that art is mimetic and that its imitation of the human story takes the form of a moral argument. The second part shows how audiences are transformed by the moral arguments the mimetic arts make\, and the third concludes with a guided tour of the mimetic arts\, where specific arts are considered in light of the Aristotelian and Thomistic principles advanced earlier. \nBeauty and Imitation is available at the CIC bookstore and through Word on Fire. \nWhat People Are Saying:\n“This is literally the best book on beauty that I have ever read: the most convincing\, clear\, and comprehensive; the most eye-opening and satisfying; the most insightful and delightful. It is a masterpiece. I do not use that word lightly\, but there is no other word for it. It is to our experience of all the aspects and instances of beauty what sunrise is to a landscape. The ‘aha!’ experience: recognition\, ‘that’s the way it is.’” \n— Peter Kreeft\, Professor of Philosophy\, Boston College\, author of Socrates’ Children \n“Daniel McInerny’s book clarifies why we enjoy works of art—pictures\, music\, drama and movies\, poetry and novels—and it also shows why we revere such works: not as ends in themselves\, but because they place us in the truthful presence of what they depict. The book reactivates Aristotle’s understanding of mimesis and Aquinas’s enhancement of it. It shows how art elevates what it displays as well as the community that experiences it. It is a metaphysical and theological reflection on the arts\, written in the style and spirit of C. S. Lewis: limpid prose\, abundant citations\, colorful examples. A book to study and learn from\, then to browse in and enjoy.” \n— Msgr. Robert Sokolowski\, Elizabeth Breckenridge Caldwell Professor of Philosophy\, The Catholic University of America \n“McInerny delivers a sustained and compelling defense of art as mimetic form\, a philosophical defense rooted in careful analysis of specific works of art\, ranging from ancient texts to contemporary film. The book does more than talk about beauty; it offers the careful reader a training in the way of beauty.” \n— Thomas Hibbs\, J. Newton Rayzor Sr. Professor of Philosophy\, Baylor University

SUMMARY:Citizens Yet Strangers
DESCRIPTION:Join author Dr. Kenneth Craycraft for a discussion of his new book\, Citizens Yet Strangers: Living Authentically Catholic in a Divided America. \nIt’s hard—and getting harder—to discern the proper relationship between our Catholic Faith and American political life. Democrat\, Republican\, third party\, or independent—how do we make sense of it all? Dr. Craycraft’s book resets the framework of how we engage with politics as Catholics. He argues that American Catholics have been more influenced by classical liberal political theory (of both the “conservative” and “liberal” variety) than by historic Catholic moral theology. While some incidental policy positions of the Democratic and Republican parties converge with Catholic moral teaching\, for most Catholics\, their respective positions are directed by their party affiliation\, not by Catholic moral doctrine. \nThe author will discuss how Catholic theology transcends partisan politics\, and he challenges Catholics to move away from the individualist liberal impulses of American political identity\, whether on the left or the right. Avoiding the common clichés that prevent us from examining the role our faith should play in our public actions\, this book dives deeper into the very way we orient our moral and political lives. \nThe event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. \nPlease RSVP today! The book will be on sale at the Catholic Information Center. \nJune 24th Schedule: \n\n6:00-7:00 PM: Talk by Kenneth Craycraft (this portion will be live-streamed)\n7:00-8:00 PM: Book signing and reception\n8:00pm: Conclusion\n\nAbout the Book:\nReseting the framework of how we engage with politics as Catholics. \nIn the midst of rapidly changing social norms\, the challenges of Catholic public witness in the United States have become increasingly more difficult and frustrating. Making matters worse\, Catholics can be found on both sides of polarizing cultural and political issues\, each side thinking theirs is the only possible position for a Catholic to hold. We cannot even convince our fellow Catholics of the rationale for our contradictory policy positions. If we cannot communicate with other Catholics\, it should be no surprise when we find ourselves mute against the broader culture. The purpose of this book is to address this precarious situation as a symptom of the same basic problem: namely\, that we have abandoned (or forgotten) the moral language of Catholicism and replaced it with a moral dialect that leads inevitably to failure and frustration.
