There is no reason to sacrifice everyone else’s happiness for their sake.\nMary Harrington shows that women’s liberation was less the result of moral progress than an effect of the material consequences of the Industrial Revolution. We’ve now left the industrial era for the digital age\, in which technology is liberating us from natural limits and embodied sex differences. This shift may benefit the elites\, but it also makes it easier to commodify women’s bodies\, human intimacy\, and female reproductive abilities.”Feminism” has been captured by well-off white-collar women\, who use it to advance their own economic and political interests under the pretense that these are the interests of all women—all the while wielding the term like a club against anyone\, male or female\, who dissents.Feminism against Progress is a stark warning against a dystopian future in which poor women become little more than convenient sources of body parts to be harvested and wombs to be rented by the rich. “Progress” no longer benefits the majority of women\, and only a feminism that is skeptical of it can truly defend their interests in the twenty-first century.\n  \nAbout Our Panel:  \nMary Harrington is a writer. DESCRIPTION:Memories of college have intruded on Bernard Kennisbaum’s mind with increasing regularity. It is his junior year\, and Bernard declares himself free of his father’s financial claws\, free to follow his Muse. A beguiling beauty\, Apryl\, has caught his eye\, and her scent leads him into a lecture hall that will change his life. His unwitting arrival in a Great Books class—The Humanities Integration Program—devolves into a wild west showdown with a trigger-happy prof\, ambitious administrators\, jealous colleagues\, vengeful state officials\, hoodlums\, and hangover hippies. Lured in by poetry\, Plato\, and female pheromones\, Bernard discovers an unlikely collegiate underworld dedicated to rescuing Western civilization from soulless purveyors of the bottom line. The trouble is\, Bernard doesn’t know which side he is on\, and he soon learns he may not know everything about his family or himself. In Mount Wonder\, two cultures collide and roll into one rip-roaring adventure of love and learning. It is based on John Senior and the Integrated Humanities Program at the University of Kansas that spawned a great educational and cultural movement. Yet Mount Wonder could just as easily be based on today’s pitched battles over the purpose of a university education\, the wisdom of the West and its canon of writers\, and whether a Good life can be lived in a decadent culture.

Registration is required. \nAbout the Speaker: Myra Kahn Adams\,\nExecutive Director National Shroud of Turin Exhibit.org\nMyra Kahn Adams leads a team of Shroud of Turin experts with the mission of producing a permanent Shroud exhibit in Washington\, D.C. The Shroud replica at CIC is her team’s first mini-exhibit. The National Shroud of Turin Exhibit is a project of SignFromGod.org\, a ministry that began in November 2017 to promote Shroud education. Then\, in May 2018\, SignFromGod spearheaded an effort culminating at the Museum of the Bible in Washington\, D.C.\, to host their successful February through July 2022 Shroud exhibit. \nMyra has written extensively about the Shroud of Turin with numerous credits\, including National Review.com. She is an avid proponent of 21st century testing. Notably\, in 2019 she wrote “Open Letter to Pope Francis: Time to Re-Test the Shroud” and was informed that the Pope’s personal secretary had received her letter. \nMyra has authored two books “Bible Study For Those Who Don’t Read the Bible” Part One and Two. These are compilations of her Townhall.com weekly Sunday Bible study column started in February 2020. She is also a regular op-ed contributor to The Hill and RealClearPolitics. \nAbout the Speaker: Nora Creech\nNora Creech has been interested in the Shroud of Turin since the 1970s and has extensively studied the linen cloth. As an experienced lecturer on the Shroud’s history\, science\, and pastoral implications\, she is passionate about sharing facts about the mysterious image and connecting it to the Gospel message. \nNora earned a Master of Arts in Faith and Culture from the University of St. Thomas in Houston\, Texas\, and attended the Shroud Studies course offered by the Pontifical Athenaeum Regina Apostolorum in Rome\, Italy.  She serves on the Board of Directors for the Shroud Center of Southern California. In addition\, Nora is working with Genevieve Keeney-Vazquez the Curator and President/CEO of the National Museum of Funeral History in Houston\, Texas to develop a permanent exhibit about the Shroud entitled “The Most Famous Burial of All Time: The Shroud of Turin.”  The exhibit opens to the public on April 27\, 2023.

It also includes an analysis of the recent U.S. Supreme Court decision that overturned Roe v. He is a Roman Catholic priest and a member of Province of St. Joseph of the Order of Preachers. He is presently assigned to the Dominican community of Sts. Philip and James in Baltimore\, MD. \nSmith’s forthcoming monograph\, “Bible Missals and the Dominican Liturgy\,” focuses on medieval bibles which contain liturgical texts for the celebration of the Mass. Bible missals present a fascinating example of the interpenetration of memory and enactment\, enabling the celebration of the mysteries articulated in the biblical text.

From how to effectively feast and fast to creating a “little oratory” in your home to bringing to life the different seasons of the Church through art\, the panelists will offer practical wisdom that you can use to bring the beauty of the Faith into your daily home life. \nMeet the Panelists\nMichaela Harrison and Jeremiah Harrison founded the website Liturgy of the Home\, a website which offers resources to Catholic families to help bring the liturgy alive through beautiful hand-drawn works of art highlighting the saints and seasons of the Church. They live with their children in Oklahoma\, where they are inspired by the Benedictine monks living near them. \nLeila Marie Lawler is a wife\, mother of seven\, and grandmother of many\, living in central Massachusetts. Leila practices “kitchen-sink philosophy” at her popular blog\, Like mother\, Like daughter\, a website offering practical and theoretical insight into all aspects of daily life. A light reception will follow the event. Registration is required. \n\nAbout The Exorcist:\nThe Exorcist is a 1971 horror novel by American writer William Peter Blatty. The book details the demonic possession of eleven-year-old Regan MacNeil\, the daughter of a famous actress\, and the two priests who attempt to exorcise the demon. Published by Harper & Row\, the novel was the basis of a highly successful film adaptation released two years later\, whose screenplay was also written and produced by Blatty\, and part of The Exorcist franchise. \nThe novel was inspired by a 1949 case of demonic possession and exorcism that Blatty heard about while he was a student in the class of 1950 at Georgetown University.[1] As a result\, the novel takes place in Washington\, D.C.\, near the campus of Georgetown University. In September 2011\, the novel was reprinted by Harper Collins to celebrate its fortieth anniversary\, with slight revisions made by Blatty as well as interior title artwork by Jeremy Caniglia.
