SUMMARY:Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult
DESCRIPTION:You’re invited to our upcoming talk with reporter Mary Margaret Olohan on her newly released book\, Detrans: True Stories of Escaping the Gender Ideology Cult.  \nMary Margaret’s talk will offer you a glimpse of her new book\, which features multiple interviews with detransitioners and gives a voice to young people who were influenced by gender ideology. \nThe event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \nJune 4th Schedule: \n\n6:00-7:00 PM: Talk by Mary Margaret (this portion will be live-streamed)\n7:00-8:00 PM: Book signing and reception\n8:00pm: Conclusion\n\nAbout the Book:\nTrans activists are all about speaking up—unless you regret your “transition” and have made the journey back. If you question gender ideology\, you’d better keep your mouth shut. But a compelling new book features multiple interviews with detransitioners and gives a voice to young people who were caught up in this damaging ideology. And their testimony—including from the lawsuits they have filed against the gender-affirming medical and therapeutic professionals who treated them—is unforgettable. “Gay Pride Month” every June has become an unquestioning celebration not just of Lesbians\, Gays\, and Bisexuals\, but also of Transitioning. Detransitioners’ experience reveals that there’s more complexity and pain involved in that category than most people will ever guess.\nThe number of teens and pre-teens persuaded they were born with the wrong body has exploded. Goaded by a toxic online “community” and assisted by teachers\, doctors\, and even their own parents\, they are promptly set on the path of puberty-blockers\, cross-sex hormones\, and gruesome “gender-affirming” surgeries. \nMedia and activists insist that “transitioning” is the happy ending to these stories. But countless young people bear terrible emotional and physical scars. Adding to their anguish\, the transgender community that once embraced them now wants to keep them quiet. \nNow one fearless reporter\, Mary Margaret Olohan\, shares their stories. Based on in-depth personal interviews\, Detrans exposes the unconscionable abuse these detransitioners have endured—manipulative therapy sessions\, mental and emotional anguish\, botched surgeries\, and attempts to construct phantom body parts. Their testimonies reveal a truth so disturbing that transgender activists will do anything to hide it. \nDetrans is indispensable evidence of the life-shattering power of gender ideology.

SUMMARY:"The Church in the Flesh" by Ida Friederike Görres
DESCRIPTION:Ida who?? Ida Friederike Görres (1901–1971) was once a well-known Catholic author in German-speaking Europe\, Britain\, and the US. She authored numerous well-known books on the Church\, the saints\, and the “burden of belief” in the modern world. A prominent figure in the 20-century German Catholic Renewal\, Görres received recognition for her insightful work from then-Father Joseph Ratzinger\, who delivered the eulogy at her Requiem Mass. Görres\, he said\, possessed “an insightful certainty and a fearlessness about the pressing questions and tasks of the Church today.” \nJoin Dr. Jennifer S. Bryson\, the translator of Görres’ The Church in the Flesh from German to English\, for a discussion of Görres’ life and her book. Ida Friederike Görres’ books will be on sale the night of the program. \nThis event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \n\n6:00 pm EDT: Talk (this portion will be offered virtually via the livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Book signing and reception\n8:00 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\nLearn a little more about Görres before the event from Dr. Bryson’s recent essay at OnePeterFive: Ida Friederike Görres: A Forgotten Catholic Rediscovered. \nAbout the Book:\nThe unhappy obverse to Romano Guardini’s observation in 1922 about “the awakening of the Church in souls\,” is “the dying of the Church in souls.” The Church in the Flesh\, written in 1950\, offers a fervent treatment for the latter in both symptom and cause. Across six refreshingly candid “letters\,” Ida Friederike Görres develops a conversation aimed at a clarified\, renewed\, and strengthened faith in Jesus Christ and His Church. Affirming truth and rejecting error\, Görres explains the incarnate nature of the Church and the necessity of the sacraments; the historical reality of the Church and the persistence of Tradition; the simplicity of the reason to believe in the Church: namely\, Jesus Christ\, the One who issues the invitation to faith; the necessary “nuisance” of morality in the Church’s mission; the kingship of Christ as the basis for the Church’s triumphs and tribulations; and the saints as the living proof of God’s salvific power and purpose. \n“Isn’t the “Faith of the Church” just as much a complete\, embodied fact—in the flesh—as it is an “idea\,” visible\, even visible like a seal imprint in the wax of so-called raw and everyday reality?” -Ida Friederike Görres \n“Görres possessed “an insightful certainty and a fearlessness about the pressing questions and tasks of the Church today” – Fr. Joseph Ratzinger (Pope Benedict XVI) \nIn an elegant English translation (for the first time) by Jennifer S. Bryson\, The Church in the Flesh embodies that clear and courageous conviction in presenting the saving truths incarnated in the Church.

SUMMARY:Family Unfriendly: How Our Culture Made Raising Kids Much Harder Than It Needs to Be
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join Tim Carney for the launch of his new book\, Family Unfriendly. Drawing on rigorous research—both as a reporter and as a dad of six—Mr. Carney will demonstrate why modern parenting is so misguided. The high standards set for modern American parenting are unrealistic and setting parents—and our kids—up to fail. \nThis event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube\, and the book will be available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nPlease RSVP today. \n6:00 pm EDT: Talk (this portion will be offered virtually via the livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Book signing and reception\n8:00 pm EDT: Conclusion \nAbout the Book:\nThe bestselling author of Alienated America traveled the country asking families and experts the same questions: why is parenting so much harder even though the kids are less happy than than a generation ago? \nParenting seems harder these days\, and Millennials and Generation Z don’t seem up for it. Why? It’s easy to blame cost or selfishness\, but kids have long been an economic drag\, and adults have always been selfish. The question is: What’s changed? The answer is culture. Our culture is less friendly to parenting that it used to be\, and should be. \nWhen we were kids\, no one was watching us every moment. That was a good thing: it meant our parents felt confident in the society around us. \nThat was the past. Today\, the mode of parenting is about hypercontrol. Kids must constantly be cosseted\, entertained\, trained\, scheduled\, and catechized as little activists and influencers. Timothy P. Carney argues that we need to lighten up and return to the virtues of old-fashioned parenting. We need to give kids space to both fail and succeed\, to have adventures and gain unexpected knowledge and enjoy unscheduled time. \nThis means escaping the travel-team trap\, abandoning helicopter parenting\, strengthening communities\, changing the workplace\, and ultimately restoring the belief that humans—adults\, kids\, and babies—are good. \nIt’s no wonder birth rates have dropped\, and that our kids are suffering unprecedented anxiety and depression. Our culture sets unreasonable standards for parents\, diminishes the value of family\, and makes us feel bad for existing. \nDrawing on rigorous research—both as a reporter and as a dad of six—Carney demonstrates why modern parenting is so misguided. The high standards set for modern American parenting are unrealistic and setting parents—and our kids—up to fail.

SUMMARY:Hannah's Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth
DESCRIPTION:Join social scientist\, mother of eight\, and author Dr. Catherine R. Pakaluk for the launch of her book\, Hannah’s Children: The Women Quietly Defying the Birth Dearth. Dr. Pakaluk has crafted a fascinating portrait of America’s most interesting yet overlooked women—women who are raising families with five or more children. The book will be available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nThis event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please RSVP today. \n\n6:00 pm EDT: Talk (this portion will be offered virtually via the livestream)\n7:00 pm EDT: Book signing and reception\n8:00 pm EDT: Conclusion\n\nAbout the Book:\nA portrait of America’s most interesting yet overlooked women. \nIn the midst of a historic “birth dearth\,” why do some 5 percent of American women choose to defy the demographic norm by bearing five or more children? Hannah’s Children is a compelling portrait of these overlooked but fascinating mothers who\, like the biblical Hannah\, see their children as their purpose\, their contribution\, and their greatest blessing. \nThe social scientist Catherine Pakaluk\, herself the mother of eight\, traveled across the United States and interviewed fifty-five college-educated women who were raising five or more children. Through open-ended questions\, she sought to understand who these women are\, why and when they chose to have a large family\, and what this choice means for them\, their families\, and the nation. \nHannah’s Children is more than interesting stories of extraordinary women. It presents information that is urgently relevant for the future of American prosperity. Many countries have experimented with aggressively pro-natalist public policies\, and all of them have failed. Pakaluk finds that the quantitative methods to which the social sciences limit themselves overlook important questions of meaning and identity in their inquiries into fertility rates. Her book is a pathbreaking foray into questions of purpose\, religion\, transcendence\, healing\, and growth—questions that ought to inform economic inquiry in the future.

SUMMARY:CIC Family Day Book Party: The Richest Leprechaun in Ireland
DESCRIPTION:The CIC invites DC-area kids and parents to a family-friendly book launch/early Saint Patrick’s Day party on Saturday\, March 2nd\, from 10:00 am-noon. \nLocal author Elise Daniel will debut her first children’s book\, The Richest Leprechaun in Ireland\, a redemptive and heartwarming tale about a greedy leprechaun and one of Ireland’s greatest missionaries that bridges the secular-sacred divide for St. Patrick’s Day. \nThe event starts with the author’s reading of The Richest Leprechaun\, followed by our Family Day St. Patrick’s Party with kid crafts\, food\, and fun. There might even be a quick Irish step dancing lesson. During the party\, parents will also have the special opportunity to buy the book and chat with the author. \nThe CIC is located at 1501 K Street\, NW. Please note that the CIC building’s garage is closed on Saturday mornings\, but street parking is available or use an app like Spothero to locate open garages. \nAbout the Book:\n\nThe Richest Leprechaun in Ireland is a playful and heartwarming tale of redemption. A greedy leprechaun named Finnius desires only one thing in life: to be the richest leprechaun in Ireland. He spends his days pick-pocketing at the village market to fill his pot of gold\, until one day\, his crooked ways catch up with him. After a surprising encounter with a praying traveler\, Finnius discovers riches of a different kind. \n \n\nThis book intends to…\n\n\nTeach children about St. Patrick’s life from his experience in captivity as a young man to his missionary work in Ireland.\nInspire the moral imagination through a fun and whimsical fairy tale that both children and parents enjoy reading together.\nAllow children to experience God’s love through St. Patrick’s witness and Finn’s character transformation.\nInspire courage through St. Patrick’s example as a great evangelist.\nNormalize Christian tradition and truth in fairy tales.\n\n\nThe CIC March 2nd event is a special opportunity to purchase this new book in-person. If you are unable to make it\, you can pre-order a copy of The Richest Leprechaun and/or support the mission of the book through Elise Daniel’s Kickstarter page. \nAbout the Speaker/Author:\nElise Daniel is an author\, entrepreneur\, and the head of publishing at Bellwether Communications where she helps thought leaders publish op-eds and books. Her and her clients’ articles have been published in Newsweek\, Forbes\, Fox News\, and National Review\, among others. She is the collaborative writer for Dr. John Bruchalski’s memoir Two Patients: My Conversion from Abortion to Life-Affirming Medicines (Ignatius Press\, 2022). \nElise is passionate about reclaiming the true meaning of her favorite holidays. \nShe lives with her husband and children in Purcellville\, Virginia.

SUMMARY:True Confessions: Voices of Faith from a Life in the Church
DESCRIPTION:Join author Francis X. Maier for the launch of his new book\, True Confessions: Voices of Faith from a Life in the Church\, with a response from George Weigel. This event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please register today. \nThank you to our event co-sponsors\, the Napa Institute and the Ethics and Public Policy Center (EPPC). \nThe program’s schedule: \n\n5:15 pm EST: Mass\n6:00 pm EST: Talk (this portion will be offered virtually via the livestream)\n7:00 pm EST: Book signing and reception\n8:00 pm EST: Conclusion\n\nFor those attending in-person\, True Confessions will be available for purchase in the CIC’s bookstore. \nAbout the Book:\nFrancis Maier’s new book examines the past decade where Rome has been marked with sharp\, and often unwarranted\, criticism of the Church in the United States and American Catholic life. But very few of the critics have taken the time to talk\, systematically\, with a wide range of U.S. Catholics to understand their concerns. True Confessions is unique for its frank and in-depth interviews with 103 bishops\, clergy\, religious\, and lay men and women from various backgrounds over a 17-month period\, December 2020 through May 2022. \nThe wide-ranging subject matter includes the unseen challenges of life as a bishop; the pressures and satisfactions of the priesthood\, the diaconate\, and the consecrated life; the structural and leadership ingredients of diocesan success and failure; fallout from the Church’s sex-abuse scandals; problems in Catholic universities; attitudes toward the Vatican; the role of Catholics in the academy and the secular culture; the witness of parents who have children with special needs; and the testimony of immigrant Americans as they assess their new homeland. \nFinally\, the book presents the reasons why so many U.S. Catholics\, despite today’s challenges\, continue to love the Church and cherish their faith with joy and energy.

SUMMARY:Life-Giving Wounds: A Catholic Guide to Healing for Adult Children of Divorce or Separation
DESCRIPTION:We invite you to join authors Dr. Daniel and Bethany Meola for a discussion of their book and ministry of the same name\, Life-Giving Wounds. This event will be offered both in-person and virtually through YouTube. Please register today. \nEvent Schedule: \n\n10:00 am EST: Talk\n11:00 am EST: Book signing and coffee hour\n12:00 pm EST: Conclusion\n\nFor those attending in-person\, Life-Giving Wounds will be available for purchase at the CIC’s bookstore. \nPlease note that the CIC building’s garage is closed on Saturday mornings. Street parking is available or use an app like Spothero to find open garages. \nAbout the Book:\nOver half of the U.S. population will experience the splitting up of their parents\, statistics say. Yet no matter how “normal” divorce becomes\, it always inflicts a profound wound on families—not only the parents\, but the children\, whether young or grown. The children of divorce are fractured on the level of their very being: heart\, mind\, and soul. If left untended\, this break could pain them for the rest of their lives\, tingeing their relationships\, their faith\, and their capacity for joy. \nLife-Giving Wounds offers a path to recovery for adult children of divorce and separation\, and a thorough reference for those who love and care for them. Daniel and Bethany Meola draw from their personal experience\, theological formation\, and academic research—as well as from their work of accompanying hundreds of men and women from broken homes—to provide a compassionate\, spiritually rich\, and psychologically sound guidebook following the footsteps of the only true healer: Jesus Christ. \nReaders of Life-Giving Wounds learn to recognize the many ruptures caused by divorce and\, more crucially\, to find new life by grieving\, praying\, hoping\, loving\, forgiving\, trusting\, and committing to one’s vocation. In the Resurrection\, God turns suffering into something infinitely beautiful: redemption. This is where we find healing that lasts. Our wounds may remain with us—as Christ’s did with him—but they can\, like his\, begin to give life. \nAbout the Speakers:\nDr. Daniel and Bethany Meola\, Co-Founders of Life-Giving Wounds (Dan is President and Board Chairman; Bethany is Vice President and Board Secretary) \nDaniel Meola is an adult child of divorce who earned his Ph.D. in Theology of Marriage and Family from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Washington\, D.C. He has been leading retreats and support groups for adult children of divorce or separation since 2015 in the Archdiocese of Washington\, and in 2018 he founded Life-Giving Wounds to spread the retreat\, support groups\, and other ministry to adult children of divorce or separation around the country. \nDan has over fifteen years of experience running retreats and giving presentations to various groups\, including for youth\, young adults\, engaged couples\, and families. \nBethany Meola has a Master of Theological Studies degree from the Pontifical John Paul II Institute for Studies on Marriage and Family in Washington\, D.C. She and Dan met there and married in 2011. Bethany served the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops for seven years in the Secretariat of Laity\, Marriage\, Family Life and Youth. Among other tasks\, she managed the website For Your Marriage\, and researched and wrote on various topics related to marriage and family. In 2017\, Dan and Bethany welcomed their daughter Zelie-Louise through the gift of adoption\, and Bethany became a stay-at-home mom. And in 2019\, Grace joined their family\, also through adoption. \nDan and Bethany live in Bowie\, MD with their two daughters and a cat.

Refreshments provided. \nABOUT BUSINESS MATTERS 2024: \nAmid a volatile and unstable world\, there are timeless principles that always stand true. Join top business leaders and entrepreneurs February 22 as they provide you with practical advice and moral principles to help you navigate an ever-changing business world. Discussion topics include the challenges of AI\, the future of work\, and disruptive technology. These experts will also explore how businesses can help local communities thrive. You don’t want to miss this virtual conference—you’ll leave encouraged by a message of hope for the future of enterprise and innovation. \nDon’t miss what past attendees have described as “an eye-opening event\,” “interesting\, inspiring … and formative\,” and an “excellent use of technology.” \nSCHEDULE: \nAfter the CIC’s Noon Mass (approx. 12:45PM): Open house begins in the CIC bookstore. Please check in. \n1:00 PM Panel: “AI\, Disruptive Technology\, and the Future of Work”\nBrent Orrell – American Enterprise Institute\, Mark Johnson – Michigan Software Labs\, Dan Churchwell – Acton Institute\, Mate Csak – PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC)\nThere is no question today that new technology is changing the way we think about and experience work. Speculation abounds about how the rapid evolution of artificial intelligence and other disruptive technologies will affect the workplace. Worries about machines replacing human jobs are common. Others\, however\, are optimistic about the way AI is changing how we work\, for they see AI as an important tool to promote better efficiency and productivity in the workplace. How will AI change the way work is done? How will it affect the workforce? How will it affect the economy? Join panelists for a lively discussion on the implications of AI\, Chat GPT\, and other disruptive technologies for the future of work.\n \n2:00 PM Book Talk with David Bahnsen: “Full Time: Work and the Meaning of Life”\nDavid L. Bahnsen – The Bahnsen Group\, Eric Kohn – Acton Institute\nIn this session\, David Bahnsen will be interviewed by Acton’s Director of Marketing & Communications\, Eric Kohn\, about his new book Full Time: Work and the Meaning of Life. In his book\, Bahnsen makes the case that our understanding of work and its role in our lives is deeply flawed – we are unmoored from what he calls “created purpose.” He argues that the time has come to stop tiptoeing around the issues that matter\, that separating one’s identity from what they do is demonstrably false\, and that this era of alienation is for many a direct result of a low view of work.  It is in work — effort\, service\, striving — of every kind that we discover our meaning and purpose; a significant and successful life is one rooted in full-time productivity and cultivation of God’s created world. \n2:30 PM Talk: “Case Studies of Entrepreneurship and Innovation”\nJose Quintana – Advent GX Corporation\nIn this talk\, Jose Quintana\, the founder of Advent GX\, shares important lessons on building a successful business. Jose will discuss his company’s business and technology incubator\, Innovation Underground\, while sharing practical knowledge about start-ups\, including the importance of developing a business’s core values. Finally\, Jose will explore four case studies from the Innovation Underground that highlight successful start-ups his organization has cultivated. Join us for a talk full of practical wisdom that no entrepreneur or businessperson will want to miss. \n3:00 PM Panel: Beyond Efficiency: How Business Can Help Communities and Families Flourish\nStephanie Slade – Reason Magazine\, Anne Bradley – The Fund For American Studies\, Stephen Dr Barrows – Acton Institute\, Douglas Gebhardt – F.A. Wilhelm Construction Company\nDoes business help or harm local communities? Answering this question is pivotal to addressing the current crisis of communities concentrated in certain regions of the country. Many have critiqued free markets for disruption in community life when factories close or jobs shift overseas. This panel will grapple honestly with some of the negative impacts of global trade and markets on certain groups and communities while also showing the positive role business can play in aiding families and communities hurting the most. As just one example: on a micro-level\, businesses can creatively solve problems that communities face and provide employment that sustains families. Join panelists Anne Bradley\, Doug Gebhardt\, and Stephanie Slade for an engaging and enlightening conversation about the role business plays in community flourishing. \n4:00 PM: Conclusion

SUMMARY:The Administrative Virtues
DESCRIPTION:View the session’s video archive here:\n \nThe CIC is pleased to invite you to our co-sponsored program with the Project on Constitutional Originalism and the Catholic Intellectual Tradition (CIT) of the Catholic University of America’s Columbus School of Law. \nThe focus of this panel discussion will be on “The Administrative Virtues\,” which is also the title of CUA Law Professor Chad Squitieri’s forthcoming law review article\, which proposes that administrative law can develop to incorporate insights from virtue ethics\, similar to how administrative law has already developed to incorporate insights from the deontological and consequentialist perspectives. A shift to virtue ethics would call for a more central focus on the actors that exercise administrative power\, rather than just the duties that might constrain those actors’ discretion (deontology) or the balancing of consequences that might flow from the actors’ proposed regulatory actions (consequentialism). \nJudge Gregory G. Katsas will serve as this session’s moderator with former Secretary of Labor Eugene Scalia and Notre Dame Law Professor Emily Bremer joining Professor Squitieri on the panel.

SUMMARY:Priest and Beggar: The Heroic Life of Venerable Aloysius Schwartz
DESCRIPTION:In 1957\, at twenty-seven years old\, Father Aloysius Schwartz of Washington\, D.C.\, asked to be sent to one of the saddest places in the world: South Korea in the wake of the Korean War. Just a few months into his priesthood\, he stepped off the train in Seoul into a dystopian film. Squatters with blank stares picked through hills of garbage. Paper-fleshed orphans lay on the streets like leftover war shrapnel. The scenes pierced him. \nWithin just fifteen years\, Father Schwartz had changed the course of Korean history\, founding and reforming orphanages\, hospitals\, hospices\, clinics\, schools\, and the Sisters of Mary\, a Korean religious order dedicated to the sickest of the sick and the poorest of the poor. All the while\, he himself—like the Sisters—lived the same hard poverty as the people he served and loved. \nBiographer Kevin Wells tells the story of a different kind of American hero\, an ordinary priest who stared down corruption\, slander\, persecution\, and death for the sake of God’s poor. “What Father Al managed to do is beyond the pale”\, said his longtime collaborator Monsignor James Golasinski. “He was the boldest man I ever knew. He feared nothing.” \nKnown for his joy and his humor\, even in the teeth of Lou Gehrig’s disease\, Schwartz was declared a Servant of God by Pope Francis in 2015. By the time of his death in 1992\, his work with the Sisters of Mary had spread to the Philippines and Mexico; and since then\, the Sisters have founded Boystowns and Girlstowns across Central and South America\, as well as in Tanzania. Father Schwartz died calling out to his beloved Mary\, the Virgin of the Poor\, saying\, “All praise\, honor\, and glory for anything good accomplished in my life goes to her and to her alone.”

SUMMARY:Persecuted From Within
DESCRIPTION:Co-sponsored with the Institute for Human Ecology. \nMany Catholics have either left the Church or been scandalized by the errors or immorality rampant in her clergy. We’ve watched aghast as faithful Catholics have been restricted or punished without just cause\, while those who confuse\, contradict\, or undermine the Faith are elevated. In this bold and urgent book\, the authors notice an apparent absurdity: those most disciplined by the Church at this time are often least deserving of correction. This protracted state of confusion and injustice\, plain for all to see\, has shaken the faith of millions. \nFar from being just another diatribe\, these absorbing pages provide a deeply illuminating historical perspective\, revealing how this chaotic period in the Church is hardly unprecedented — or unpredicted. Instead\, it represents a recurring feature of life in the Church throughout her history and is even a part of the divine plan. With this context\, you will be able to make sense of and discover solutions to our present suffering. \nYou will learn: \n\nWhen to obey — and when to disobey — a priest or bishop; how several saints were purified and sanctified by unholy superiors \nWhat not to do when responding to the crisis of persecution in the Church \nHow Christ both predicted and prefigured the sufferings of His Church at the hands of wicked prelates \nPractical ways you can respond and share the truth \nAchievable means to embolden your faith and remain obedient while correcting error \nHow to talk to non-Catholics about the pandemic of filth and error in the Church \n\nYou will see how eleven of the greatest Catholics in history — canonized saints all — suffered from undeserved persecution by their superiors and even betrayal by clergy and how this suffering was part of their sanctification\, serving as a heroic model for us today. You will contemplate the valor and wisdom of priests from the earliest days of the Church; of laypeople from St. Joan of Arc to St. Thomas More; of religious\, such as Sts. Teresa of Ávila\, John of the Cross\, and Alphonsus Liguori; and of modern-day giants\, including St. Padre Pio and Archbishop Fulton J. Sheen. As you travel with these remarkable characters across twenty centuries and four continents\, you will see the wisdom of the divine plan and be encouraged to defend the Church through this present hour of darkness. \nAdditionally\, you will find thorough and orthodox explanations of doctrine concerning Church authority\, fraternal correction\, and the virtue of obedience\, as well as a practical plan to redeem our current shameful chapter in Church history. This book stands as a valuable and heartening resource for pastors\, catechists\, and those who seek to “counsel the doubtful” and “comfort the afflicted.”

SUMMARY:The Current of Desire: A Philosophy of Love in Motion
DESCRIPTION:This event is in person! \nThe popular prophets of the twenty-first century encourage a wholesale embrace of human desire. If you want it\, you ought to have it. But\, to what extent can our desires be trusted? And\, in what sense do they reveal our destiny? This lecture will consider desire according to the mind of St. Thomas Aquinas as a love in motion\, specifically a love that stands in need of healing and growth. For only with order and by discipline does one attain to the horizon of his homing. \nCo-Sponsored with The Congressional Catholic Staff Association.

SUMMARY:Praying the Rosary with Sacred Art
DESCRIPTION:Fr Lawrence Lew’s stunning photographs of sacred art inspire his contemplations of each Mystery of the Rosary. Both the words and the images make the Mysteries we contemplate in this great prayer vivid and real\, helping all of us – those who pray the Rosary faithfully and those who struggle with the devotion – to pray more deeply and with greater understanding.

SUMMARY:Glorifying Christ
DESCRIPTION:Cardinal Francis E. George\, O.M.I.\, was a model pastor and a heroic disciple of Christ. A native Chicagoan\, he was told as a young man that he would never be a priest in Chicago because of a physical disability resulting from polio. He went on to be ordained a priest with the Oblates of Mary Immaculate in 1963. He was appointed as Archbishop of Chicago in 1997\, created a cardinal in 1998\, and served in Chicago until 2014\, just months before his death at the age of 78. \nCardinal George’s many gifts — including his superior intellect — made him a pivotal player in Church affairs nationally and internationally. He governed during difficult and challenging times\, yet he always attempted to lead with the heart of Christ\, living out his episcopal motto\, “To Christ be glory in the Church.” \nA man of pastoral availability\, Cardinal George poured out his life in service to Christ and the Church\, always attentive to the poor and those on the margins. Universally admired for his pursuit and proclamation of the truth\, and his personal witness to the Gospel\, Cardinal George remains a model for discipleship and leadership. By the time of his death in 2015\, Cardinal George was regarded as one of the most respected bishops in American Catholic history. His fascinating and inspiring story reminds us that God’s ways are always better than our own.
