SUMMARY:The Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Enduring Legacy
DESCRIPTION:The Museum of the Bible’s Dr. Robert “Bobby” Duke is a distinguished scholar of the Bible\, the Dead Sea Scrolls\, and Second Temple Judaism. On December 4 at 6:30 PM EST\, Dr. Duke visits the CIC to bring these ancient texts vividly to life. His presentation reveals the profound historical and theological significance of the Dead Sea Scrolls and offers insight into their enduring impact. \nFrom November 22\, 2025 – September 7\, 2026\, the Museum of the Bible will host a limited exhibition\, featuring hundreds of priceless artifacts that illuminate the world of Jesus. Highlights include the Magdala Stone\, an intricately carved table from Mary Magdalene’s hometown\, where Jesus may have read or taught\, and the awe-inspiring “Jesus Boat\,” a first-century fishing vessel remarkably preserved for 2\,000 years in the Sea of Galilee. Dr. Duke’s engaging presentation brings to light the remarkable treasures of the Dead Sea Scrolls\, uncovering their enduring impact on history\, faith\, and culture. \nImagine holding a fragment of history that once echoed in the hills of Qumran two thousand years ago. That’s the world Dr. Duke will draw us into as he unpacks the Dead Sea Scrolls — texts that capture the prayers\, struggles\, and hopes of a community living at the time of Jesus. Drawing from years of research\, he reveals how these writings trace the transmission of Scripture\, illuminate the everyday faith of ancient Jews\, and connect us to the very roots of Christian and Jewish traditions. Dr. Duke’s engaging presentation invites us to view the Dead Sea Scrolls not merely as ancient artifacts\, but as living documents that have shaped and inspired faith communities for centuries. \n12/4 Schedule: \n\n6:15 PM: Doors open for registrant check-in\n6:30 PM: Dr. Duke on “The Dead Sea Scrolls and Their Enduring Legacy” (This portion will be offered both in-person and virtually through a YouTube livestream)\n7:30 PM: Light happy (half) hour\n8:00 PM: Evening concludes\n\nPlease RSVP today through the form on this page! \nFor more information on the Museum of the Bible’s exhibit: Dead Sea Scrolls: The Exhibition | Museum of the Bible.
